The training program called "Zoonosis Control and Man-Animal Interaction", promoted by both the World Health Organization and the International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organizations (IAHAIO), and organized by Arca Brasil, took place at the Hotel Rancho Silvestre in Embu das Artes, in September, 2001.
This pioneering event promoted the creation of a viable model of action for developing countries. It prioritizes humane and preventive Rabies and Visceral Leishmaniasis control programs, and enables animal control professionals to perform the required actions.
The training program consisted of 4 work groups:
1. Rabies
2. Responsible Pet Ownership/Education
3. Animal Control
4. Leishmaniasis
Some of the participants were: Dr. Albino Belotto (PAHO/Washington), Dr. Dennis Turner, PhD (International Association for Human Animal Interactions Organizations) and Ms. Joy Lenney (World Society for the Protection of Animals).
